Aquamarine
March BIRTHSTONE
Aquamarine is the most widely recognized birthstone for March, named from the Latin aqua marina, meaning "water of the sea," reflecting its calm, ocean like blue color. Its hues range from pale sky blue to deep greenish-blue, and the deeper the color, the more valuable the stone. Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, the same mineral group as emerald, and has a Mohs hardness of 7.58, making it durable for everyday jewelry. Historically, aquamarine was believed to calm stormy seas, protect sailors, bring courage, and promote mental clarity. It is also traditionally given for the 19th wedding anniversary.
